On our way out of California, we drove through Redlands. David was born there and lived in this house until he was about 3. Anita thought it would be neat for us to drive by it if we had a chance. We left LA hours before dark thinking we had plenty of time, but didn’t count on major LA traffic. We made it to the house minutes before it was too dark to see or take a pic. I took this shot with my camera settings maxed out, with a very slow shutter speed and from the car! (Then I had to lighten it with Photoshop.) But we got it!
Anyway, it was so neat to see the house. It sits in a nice, quiet neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac. And, unchanged from 40 years ago, is an orange grove across the street! David doesn’t have too many memories from those early years, but he did recall the playroom above the garage and his mom talking about the orange groves there. The kids were less excited, but I’m glad they got to see where their old dad got his beginnings. (Even if he doesn’t call himself a Californian!)
